What is "SOUF"?
"SOUF" is a type of weaving technique in Persian rugs (adapted by Chinese rug weavers these days) where the whole field is flat-woven and only the designs themselves are executed with pile. The pile has been clipped in some areas to produce an embossed effect.
The majority of souf rugs were made in cities such as Kashan and Tabriz. However, there are some tribal rugs such as Turkmen tent bands and some Baluch rugs that have mixed pile and Flatweave format.
