Mahabad
The MAHABAD township is located 873 km(542 Miles) from TEHRAN and 100 km(62 Miles) south of ORUMIYEH. The weather in MAHABAD (formerly Savojbolagh Mokri) is cold in the mountainous areas while it is mild in the plains and forests. In the year 1038 AH (625 CE), near the end of Shah Abbas I's reign, it was the capital city of the local government and many noteworthy buildings were constructed there. Presently, many significant historical sites exist in this township of which the following are particularly notable:
  • Several historical caves belonging to the Orartoi Period
  • Median city of Anderghash
  • Achaemenian crypt of Daka in Anderghash
  • Mausoleum of Bedaghol-Sutan in the southwest of Mahabad.

Kurdish rugs are Persian hand-woven carpets made by the Kurdish people of IRAN. They are very beautiful in appearance and enhance any room. Many patterns are found in rugs of this type.

These include geometric patterns, floral, or overall patterns. The carpets usually last a surprisingly long time. Each Kurdish rug is unique and is an ideal way to brighten up a room or add some warmth to the floor.

Although all were initially of the same origin, the Kurds migrated throughout IRAN and established colonies and tribes from the west to the east, and from the north to the south as they branching into other tribes with different names.

A few of the Kurdish tribes of the western regions with Kurdish roots include the Herki, Senjabi, Gurani, Jaffid, and Kalhors. They now form a great portion of the Iranian population.

Kurdish carpets are woven throughout Persia (IRAN), but more so in the central northwestern mountainous regions. The Kurdish people have contributed a great deal to the development of the art of carpet making in Persia and traces of Kurdish influence can be seen in all the provinces of the nation.

A few major Kurdish rug-producing centers are Senneh, BIJAR, and the district of Khamseh. Some other Kurdish villages and districts that produce rugs are Borchelu, Goltogh, Khoi, Koliai, Lylyan, Mousel, Nanadj, Songhore, Touserkan, and Zagheh.
